Psychiatry


Psychiatry is a Western medicine approach focused on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mental, emotional, and behavioral "disorders". Psychiatry uses sets of criteria to differentiate "normal" mental struggles from those that are "disordered." Every so often, the diagnostic manual of what constitutes a "disorder" and "dysfunction" changes - criteria change and even entire diagnoses are removed or added. This approach to medicine seeks to check boxes indicating a certain "illness" and treat that illness with evidence-based medications that genuinely help people feel some relief of their pain.


This service is covered by most insurances in the standard healthcare system. So I can spend less time on paperwork and be more in tune to our clients' needs, I do not directly accept insurance. 

If your insurance covers out-of-network providers, it is likely they will accept and pay for your visit to our clinic for psychiatry and psychotherapy services. I provide each client what is called a "super bill" to send to their insurance company for reimbursement. "Super bill" does not imply a large amount. I try to keep prices for folks with insurance about the same as their anticipated insurance payment, with an additional copay to our clinic that is typically between $40-$70.
